School of Architecture and Fine Arts
The School of Architecture and Fine Arts (SAFA) at the University of Phayao is a unique fusion of creative disciplines. We bring together four departments — Architecture, Interior Architecture, Art & Design, and Music & Dance — under a shared vision of nurturing makers and innovative creative thinkers.
Founded on the principle that cross-disciplinary learning produces more capable and culturally aware graduates, SAFA blends deep expertise in traditional Thai artistic heritage with contemporary global design practice.

M.Arch. Interdisciplinary Creative Architecture
An interdisciplinary architecture program integrating architecture with cultural, community, and social contexts through advanced research and design.
Three study plans tailored to different backgrounds and goals:
Open to Thai and international applicants with strong Thai language proficiency. Graduates in architecture, fine arts, or related creative design fields are eligible.

Undergraduate Requirements
- check_circle High school diploma or equivalent (A-Level, IB, or recognized international qualifications)
- check_circle Minimum GPA: 2.5/4.0 or above
- check_circle English proficiency: TOEFL 450+ or IELTS 4.5+ (waived for native speakers)
- check_circle Portfolio or audition: Required for Art and Music programs (Architecture may request additional materials)
- check_circle Essay + Interview: For shortlisted applicants
Graduate Requirements
- check_circle Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (any field)
- check_circle Minimum GPA: 2.75/4.0 or equivalent
- check_circle English proficiency: TOEFL 500+ or IELTS 5.0+ (waived for native speakers)
- check_circle Portfolio or work samples: Demonstrate creative experience (3-5 pieces)
- check_circle Statement of Purpose + Interview: Explain academic and career goals

Facilities & Resources
SAFA Building
The main school building features multi-purpose rooms on the 1st floor (east and west wings), school offices and co-working space with library on the 2nd floor, meeting rooms on the 3rd floor, and a computer lab (Digital Learning Area) on the 4th floor.

Multi-purpose Rooms & Studios
Two large multi-purpose rooms (1-1 and 1-2) on the ground floor serve as flexible studio spaces for design critiques, exhibitions, workshops, and cross-disciplinary collaborative projects.

Computer Lab
The 4th floor computer lab supports CAD, design software, and digital work for architecture and design students.

Co-Working Space & Library
The co-working space with the school library on the 2nd floor is open for individual and group work. The university's central library (Learning Resource Center) is also available on campus.

New Workshop Building
A new workshop building was announced with a groundbreaking ceremony during SAFA's 15th anniversary in February 2026, expanding hands-on making and material exploration capacity.
